Stewart Axford BSc MD FRCP
Dr.
Axford obtained his undergraduate medical degrees, MB
(Bachelor of Medicine) and BS (Bachelor of Surgery) from
University College, London.
In 1989, Dr. Axford was chosen to be a Fulbright Scholar
and spent the next year carrying out immunology research
at Tuft's University, Boston. Upon finishing his stay
in the US, he completed his research thesis in arthritic
diseases and was awarded his MD in 1990 and his Specialist
Accreditation in Rheumatology and Immunology in 1991.
From 1990, Dr. Axford has been a member of the Faculty
at St. George's Hospital Medical School, University of
London, as Senior Lecturer in Rheumatology and as Consultant
and Reader in Rheumatology and Clinical Immunology. Dr.
Axford serves on the editorial boards of three medical
journals and on numerous medical and health related committees.
He is past-President of the Royal Society of Medicine,
Section of Clinical Immunology and Allergy. Dr. Axford
has authored or co-authored over fifty published peer-reviewed
scientific papers and over one hundred published abstracts
and letters.
Dr. Axford has lectured extensively throughout the US,
the UK, Europe, Australia and Asia. He chaired the 2000
Royal Society of Medicine Conference, Glycobiology and
Medicine, held in London where approx. two hundred experts
from throughout the world discussed the biological activity
of carbohydrates (sugars) and their relationship with
health and disease. |
